Oxford — When a coach leaves shortly before the season starts, it's crucial to find a replacement quickly. At Miami, the RedHawks have been able to do that before the outgoing coach has even cleared out her desk, as Kelly Phillips has been named the successor to Rita Arndt-Molis for both women's track and field as well as cross country.

"Kelly Phillips is an outstanding coach," Miami athletic director Brad Bates said. "We look forward to her leadership for our program and her many future contributions to our evolution as a culture of champions."

Phillips, who is currently an assistant coach at Purdue, replaces the outgoing Arndt-Molis, who will be leaving Miami at the end of July. Perhaps most noticeable about Phillips isn't even her on-field achievements, but the fact that during her four years at Purdue, the track and field team finished with the school's best grade point average twice.

"I am extremely happy for coach Phillips," Jack Warner, PU's current head coach for both cross country and track and field said. "I owe a lot of thanks to coach Phillips for all her efforts in improving our women's distance area. Miami is getting a quality coach and a quality person."

Prior to coaching at Purdue, Phillips was a coach at Auburn and South Florida. During the 2000-01 season, she was the head coach for the Bulls.

Phillips graduated from Auburn with a degree in marketing in 1991.
