MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan got onto the scoreboard in just one inning. But, that one big inning was enough for the Chippewas to complete a three-game sweep of rival Western Michigan, 6-2 on Sunday.

In the second inning, the Broncos (12-38, 5-19 MAC) jumped ahead 2-0 and loaded the bases with two outs. However, CMU starter Zach Cooper struck out Chris Lewis to limit the damage. The Chippewas' pitchers would go on to shut down WMU for the rest of the afternoon, limiting the Broncos to two hits over the final seven innings.

CMU's bats came to life in the sixth inning.

After struggling to put up runs through the first five innings, CMU came out strong in the sixth, scoring all of its runs on seven hits and one Broncos error. Eric Heckaman got charged with the first three runs, before giving way to Troy Forton. He got saddled with three more runs, two of them earned, before getting out of the inning.

Cooper earned the win for Central Michigan and improved his record to 3-2 on the year. Heckaman falls to 0-9 for Western Michigan.

The sweep is CMU's first over the Broncos since 2007.

Central Michigan is now 30-19 on the year and 17-7 in the MAC. That's good for a second place tie with Toledo, one game behind MAC West leaders Ball State.
