BOWLING GREEN — Searching for a new coach, Bowling Green found a man who is no stranger to success. The Falcons announced the hiring of Chris Bergeron on Monday.

Bergeron
"Chris' passion, energy and commitment to excellence won us over," BGSU athletic director Greg Christopher said. "As a player, he set the foundation for Miami's program, then as a coach, he helped build the program to its current championship caliber."
Bergeron comes to BGSU from a RedHawks team that he played in (1989-93) and then has been an assistant coach for since 2000. In that time, the RedHawks have had eight 20-win seasons and six trips to the NCAA Tournament. Included in that run were back-to-back trips to the Frozen Four over the past two seasons. Bergeron also won as CCHA Championship during his senior season.
The goal now is to help the Falcons become a contender in the CCHA. This won't be an easy task for a team that has a rich history, but finished 11th in the CCHA this past season with an overall record of just 5-25-6.
"I'm very excited to be a art of putting Bowling Green back where it belongs in the hockey world," Bergeron said. "What excites me the most is seeing how hungry everyone is to make Bowling Green hockey successful again."
The Falcons have not finished with a record above .500 since 1996-97, but have also won a National Championship in 1984.
Bergeron is married to Janis Bergeron. The couple has two sons, Logan, 9, and Connor, 6.
