KENT — After having its 22-match home winning streak snapped last week, Kent State (8-3, 5-0) started another streak in dominating fashion on senior day with a 195.275-191.200 win against Bowling Green (5-6, 4-1).
"We're starting to work very well as a team and events are starting to round into form," said head coach Brice Biggin. "This wasn't a perfect meet, but we are competing successfully and the girls are gaining confidence. That is what you want at this time of year."
Kent State swept all four events, including big wins for the Flashes on bars (48.625-46.900) and beam (48.600-47.175).
Individually, junior Christine Abou-Mitri won all-around with a career-high 39.375, lifting her Mid-American Conference-leading regional qualifying score to 39.125. She also won on beam (9.875), on floor (9.850) and on bars (9.800). Abou-Mitri took second on vault with a 9.850.
"Abou just looks so confident out there. She does what your elite level kids do. She wobbled near the beginning of her beam routine, but she had no other deductions," Biggin said.
Junior Christina Lenny took second in the all-around with a 38.925 while senior Lydia Barrett completed a 9.850 to finish tied with Abou-Mitri in her final floor routine at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes started off the meet strong with a 49.000 on vault. Daniel Wishart of Bowling Green won the event with a 9.875, followed by Abou-Mitri with a 9.850. Lenny captured third with a 9.825 while senior Brittany Kopp took fourth with a season-high 9.800.
Bowling Green recorded a 48.575 on vault.
On bars, Kent State distanced themselves with more than a 1.5 spread over Bowling Green. Freshman Rachel Guida took the top spot with a 9.800, tied with Abou-Mitri. Lenny captured third with a 9.725.
Kent State also created space against Bowling Green on beam, 48.600-47.175. Abou-Mitri recorded her third-straight 9.875 on the event. In her final beam routine of her Kent State career at home, Kopp finished second with a 9.750. Freshman Sarah Moore took third with a 9.700.
In an exhibition routine, senior Carly Conroy received a 9.800 score.
Closing out the meet on floor, Kent State received a 49.050 compared to 48.550 for Bowling Green. Besides the win by Abou-Mitri and Barrett, senior Sam Heydlauff finished fourth with a 9.800 judges' mark.
Kent State returns to action next weekend when it travels to Kalamazoo for the final meet of the 2010 regular season. If the Golden Flashes win, it will be the third-consecutive year they have been undefeated in conference meets and will extend their MAC winning streak to 19.
