LOUISVILLE — The Western Michigan men's tennis team played point-for-point with another nationally-ranked team, but came up just short, 5-2, to No. 38 Oklahoma State in Louisville on Friday afternoon.

The Broncos (7-4) nearly took the doubles point as junior Casey Cullen and sophomore Pablo Olivarez won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and Michael and Thomas Calderone advanced to a tiebreaker at No. 3. The Cowboys' (3-3) tandem pulled out the tiebreaker, 9-8 (3), to earn the first point.

The Broncos quickly evened the score as junior Kazuya Komada dominated the nation's No. 65 singles player, Anton Bobytskyi, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

The Cowboys won the next point as Michael Calderone dropped a tight match to reigning ITA National Player of the Year and No. 10 singles player Oleksandr Nedovyesov 6-4, 6-4.

Western Michigan tied the match again as junior Brad Noel closed out Maxi Kuhn 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Oklahoma State regained the lead with a straight set win at No. 5 to leave the decison in the hands of No. 3 and No. 4 singles.

Olivarez took the first set over Ilija Martinoski at No. 3, but the Cowboy came back to win the next two sets for the win 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Freshman Simon Blomberg also won the opening set at No. 4, but couldn't close out Aleksey Bessonov in a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 loss.
