Central Michigan dominated the first weekend of the Mid-American Conference season. The Chippewas welcomed in Wisconsin-La Crosse, Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Centenary on Saturday, beating all three schools with a score of 192.525.
The rest of the MAC took notice, handing CMU both its Gymnast and Specialist of the Week.
Brittany Petzold earned the MAC Gymnast of the Week after scoring the conference’s highest marks in the uneven bars and overall score in the opening weekend. Petzold’s score of 9.825 on the uneven bars was just 0.50 below her career best. She finished the meet with an all-around score of 38.625.
Kari Dieffenderfer was named the MAC Specialist of the Week after posting a career-high on the vault. The sophomore from Dawsonville, Ga. scored a 9.900. She also finished fourth in the uneven bars with a score of 9.700. Dieffenderfer’s score on the vault was the highest in the MAC over the weekend.
Dieffenderfer was also named the State Farm Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
