DEKALB — Marke Freeman put back 27 points, but it wasn't enough to lift the Huskies in a rare midweek matinee.
Northern Illinois played host to Northern Iowa, but came up a little short against the Panthers, falling 71-65. Northern Iowa scored the games first 11 points and then the Huskies spent the rest of the contest trying to recover.
"We dug a hole in the beginning of the game and spent the rest of it trying to dig ourselves out," said NIU coach Carol Owens.

Marke Freeman had 27 points.
The Huskies closed the gap to three points with 8:06 left in the first half, but then a Northern Iowa (2-4) run pushed the lead bak to double-digits.
Early in the second half, NIU (3-4) came out and took a two point lead thanks to a three-point play by Freeman. She hit a jumper to put the Huskies ahead and then converted the free throw, putting NIU ahead 35-33. Northern Iowa went right back though, hitting a three-pointer to take a lead that it wouldn't relinquish.
Nicole Clausen and Lizzie Boeck each had 16 points for the Panthers in the win.
